LTC Oversight - File a Complaint
Long-Term Care Providers Regulatory Oversight
Various agencies and departments within Virginia oversee the regulatory compliance of long-term care and other healthcare providers. Listed below are some of the care providers and the state agency providing oversight or inspections of the care providers.
- Assisted Living Facilities: Department of Social Services (DSS)
- Nursing Homes: Virginia Department of Health (VDH) Office of Licensure and Certification (OLC)
- Urgent care center - these facilities are not licensed; please contact the Department of Health Professions (DHP) to file a complaint against the individual health provider at the center.
- Individual health care provider (e.g., physician, nurse, etc.) - please contact DHP.
- Psychiatric hospital - please contact both the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) and VDH OLC. DBHDS is responsible for state licensure and VDH OLC is responsible for federal certification.
- Intermediate care facility for individuals with intellectual disabilities (ICF/IID) - please contact both DBHDS and VDH OLC. DBHDS is responsible for state licensure and VDH OLC is responsible for federal certification.
