This informative webinar is designed for assisted living staff members who want to better support veteran residents and their families in navigating the Veterans Aid & Attendance benefit. The session will provide a clear overview of the purpose of the benefit, basic eligibility and qualification requirements, and how it can help offset the cost of care.
The presentation will also explore common reasons Aid & Attendance applications are delayed or denied, offering practical insights to help staff guide families through the process more effectively and avoid frequent pitfalls. In addition, attendees will receive an overview of resources and benefits available through the Virginia Department of Veterans Services that may further support veterans and their families.
Meet the Speaker: Betina Nicklas
Betina Nicklas is a Veterans Service Representative with the Virginia Department of Veterans Services, where she has supported veterans and their families since May 2025. Prior to working for the state of Virginia, she worked in Pennsylvania as her County’s Veterans Affairs Director, where she held that position for over 10 years.
Ms. Nicklas currently has over 20 years with the Pennsylvania National Guard and holds the position of First Sergeant with a Transportation Company. Her leadership experience, both in uniform and in state service, reflects a career built on advocacy, mentorship, and a deep commitment to the veteran community.
Ms.Nicklas moved to the area over 3 years ago with her husband, and they currently reside in Orange, VA with their 1 year old puppy.
