Social Security 101: Everything You Wanted to Know

Jackie Weisgarber, Public Affairs Specialist with the Social Security Administration will provide an overview of Social Security Benefits, Medicare, the Representative Payee Program, Scam Prevention, and more. Learn how to use the my Social Security online account and other online services in a quick, safe and easy manner. A question and answer period will follow the presentation.

  • How does early retirement affect your benefits?
  • Do you qualify for disability, survivors, and spouse benefits?
  • How do you get the most from your benefit?
  • What is the future of Social Security?
  • When should you file for Medicare?
Webinar Format: Live Webinar
Participants will be able to interact with the presenter during the presentation. Participants will be expected to attend all of the training to receive continuing education credits. Interactive polls may be conducted during the webinar as a form of attendance verification and will require answers by participants.

Public Affairs Specialist, Social Security Administration

Jackie began her career with Social Security in 2006 as a Claims Specialist in the Charleston, SC field office. In this role, Jackie served the public with compassion courtesy and respect and processed over 10,000 Social Security claims. In 2016, Jackie moved to Richmond after accepting the agency’s Public Affairs Specialist position where she implements Social Security’s communications plan through local, regional and national outreach initiatives.  Jackie has received numerous agency awards including a public service award from Social Security Commissioner Andrew Saul.

Jackie has a BA in Journalism from The University of South Carolina and a Master’s in Public Administration from The College of Charleston.

Upcoming VALA Webinars

VALA is proud to offer upcoming webinars for assisted living administrators, regional staff members, caregivers, nurses, and other staff members. The webinars will offer a variety of continuing education credits dependent upon the topics (i.e. NAB, Nursing, Social Work). Many of the webinars are held live with the ability of participants to interact with the presenter during the webinar. 

Virginia Board of Long-Term Care Administrators Continuing Education Requirements and Guidance
Per 18VAC95-30-70(A)(1) and 18VAC95-20-175(A)(1), Up to 10 of the 20 hours may be obtained through Internet or self-study courses and up to 10 continuing education hours in excess of the number required may be transferred or credited to the next renewal year. 

03/19/2020 CE guidance: During the six month extension of continuing competency requirements that must be obtained for the licensure period between April 1, 2019 - March 31, 2020, programs delivered via teleconference or webcast where there is an opportunity to interact wtih the speakers in real time ("interactive course") will count toward the 10 hours of continuing competency requirements that must be taken in addition to the 10 hours of internet or self-study hours.
