WHO ARE INVITED TO REGISTER? C-Suite representatives from assisted living communities in Virginia are invited to register to listen in on the discussion. Accepted registrants will receive a virtual link to listen in on the SHAPE discussion. Anyone not accepted to participate for the SHAPE discussion will be contacted and provided with opportunities to participate in future conversations.
WHAT IS THE SHAPE ABOUT? In speaking with several individuals, agencies, and employers, it has become clear that the knowledge of the various career opportunities within assisted living and the available employment supports within government and educational entities are not widely known to agencies and employers not already connected. Assisted Living Facilities (ALFs) are struggling with recruitment, training, and retention of employees, and we have learned some of Virginia’s workforce programs need additional employers to support benefit recipients/customers. We have also been informed by numerous individuals that many colleges, universities, and technical schools are also not familiar with the opportunities and requirements to work in assisted living. Therefore, we felt it would be good to have an informational discussion to share experiences and to discuss opportunities for collaboration and sharing of resources. Listed below is a broad overview of some of the items for each entity to share during the discussion, highlighting three elements:
- What are they currently doing/offering to help with workforce development?
- What do they need to be more successful with their workforce development efforts?
- How can they help with recruitment, training, and retention of assisted living community workers?
Listed below are the organizations that will be participating in the SHAPE discussion.
- Virginia Assisted Living Association (VALA)
- Argentum (VALA’s national affiliate)
- Commonwealth of Virginia entities
- Governor of Virginia’s Administration
- Virginia Works
