How the Pandemic Dramatically Increased Malnutrition Risk in the Older Adult and the 3 Things We Must Do to Stop It"

1. Gain understanding of how the unique nutritional needs of the older adult put them at risk for malnutrition and dehydration and how COVID-19 is exacerbating it.
2. Learn how simple validated nutrition screening tools specifically developed for the older adult are a key strategy.
3. Get best practices for nutrition interventions that work in the COVID-19 era for reducing malnutrition and dehydration risk.
4. Identify how improving the quality and safety of foods for those with chewing and swallowing problems helps reduce malnutrition.

Special Guest Presenter: Margaret Roche MS, RD, CSG, CDE, FADA
Margaret Roche is a nutrition and dining consultant who for over 30 years has been championing optimal nutrition for the older adult. Maggie is a registered dietitian with a master’s degree in clinical nutrition.  She has advanced credentials as a certified diabetes educator, is board certified as a specialist in gerontological nutrition and is distinguished as a Fellow of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
 
LTC Administrator CEUs: This program will offer 1 participant hour of continuing education through the Virginia Assisted Living Association (VALA) as authorized by NAB/NCERS.
