Regulations/Legislation

The Virginia Assisted Living Association (VALA) is ACTIVELY involved with Virginia's General Assembly and regulatory agencies regarding issues, regulations, policies, procedures, concerns, etc. directly related to Virginia's assisted living industry.

With your support and feedback, we are able to maintain open dialogue that has led to the RIGHT legislation for the industry that benefits the providers, residents, and employees of each community!

ASSISTED LIVING LICENSURE

In Virginia, assisted living facilities are licensed by the Virginia Department of Social Services, and assisted living administrators are licensed by the Board of Long-Term Administrators within the Virginia Department of Health Professions. Below are links to the applicable regulations.

VIRGINIA GENERAL ASSEMBLY

Who's My Legislator? Use this service to determine who your legislators are. Once you know who your legislators are, then please contact them and let them know that you would like to be a resource for them on issues pertaining to assisted living and senior care. Many legislators need to be educated on the differences within the senior care living options, as they often get nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and group homes mixed up.

VIRGINIA'S REGULATORY AGENCIES

VALA routinely contacts Virginia's regulatory agencies on behalf of assisted living providers for clarification. VALA does not disclose the name of the inquiring provider unless permission has been given in advance by the provider.
